Over Half of American Adults Own Smartphones

In the U.S., 56 percent of adults are now smartphone owners, according to a study published Wednesday by Pew. This is the first time since Pew began tracking the numbers that the majority of the population owns a smartphone.
 
People of all ages appear to be snapping up smartphones. While young adults are the highest adopters with around 80 percent owning a smartphone, people 65 and older are also increasingly choosing smart over feature phones. According to Pew, 18 percent of people ages 65 and older own a smartphone — compared with 13 percent a year ago.

The Wounded Warrior Project began in 2003 when several veterans and their friends heard the stories of the first wounded soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq and took action to help others in need. Since launching 10 years ago, the organization has provided support for more than 35,000 veterans and their families as they recover from their injuries.Now, Verizon Wireless is offering another way to support the organization. The Company has teamed with Samsung Telecommunications America and Brightstar to offer a Wounded Warrior Project bundle. The bundle, available exclusively in more than 3,500 select Walmart stores, includes the Samsung Gusto 2 and a Samsung Bluetooth headset. Video: Lending a Hand with Wireless Devices

 On April 25, Verizon Wireless made a significant donation of wireless devices and technology to The People’s Pantry, a food pantry and resource center in Toms River, NJ that has become a Hurricane Sandy resource center for community members looking for a helping hand. 

The ceremony was attended by nearly 60 community members, including Toms River Township Mayor, Thomas F. Kelaher, and volunteers from AmeriCorps and The Corporation for National and Community Service. See more at the video below

Last week, Verizon Wireless introduced the newest premium retailer to give consumers the ability to purchase the latest smartphones and tablets on its 4G LTE network – Viva Móvil by Jennifer Lopez. Jennifer Lopez launched Viva Móvil in collaboration with Brightstar, a global distribution and services company, and Moorehead Communications, Verizon Wireless’ largest premium retailer. Viva Móvil will offer consumers a full service shopping experience online, in customized stores and on mobile devices.

Viva Móvil will revolutionize the wireless shopping experience for Latino consumers with a unique social shopping experience through its Facebook page. While on the page, consumers can get personalized recommendations, shop with their friends, comment on devices and share what device or accessory they purchased – all while staying connected on Facebook. Consumers can interact with Viva Móvil on getviva.com and the Viva Móvil Facebook page now.


In the next few weeks, the Viva Móvil by Jennifer will announce store opening in major markets including New York.
