Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber Small Business Fair

On Friday, June 21, The Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted the Latino Business Series at Temple University’s Fox School of Business. Sponsored by Verizon Wireless, the small business fair welcomed 200 guests for a half-day educational event of workshops addressing small business functions such as technology, social media, business planning and access to capital. Business owners, professionals and entrepreneurs from the Greater Philadelphia Latino Community were given the opportunity to attend the Verizon ‘Powerful Answers’ Workshop, led by Michele Ruiz and designed to provide attendees with the knowledge to power, connect and grow business through mobile technology.

Guests were also encouraged to nominate themselves or a fellow business owner for the Verizon Latino Business Series’ Entrepreneur of the Year award. The winner will receive a $25,000 cash infusion, five 4G LTE devices and free voice and data service for a year provided by Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless is committed to supporting Philadelphia’s Latino Business Community with mobile technology solutions, tools and resources. Along with the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Verizon hopes to educate local Latino organizations on technological options to help grow their business.

 Verizon partnered with the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce to host Philadelphia’s first ever Small Business Week, celebrating the Philadelphia Tri-State Region’s more than 150,000 small businesses and the positive impact they have on the economy. The week was jam-packed with workshops highlighting essential business-growing tools such as generating jobs and driving innovation in the region. Verizon Wireless’ blazing fast 4G LTE network makes it easier for business owners to stay connected with solutions like wireless tablets, hotspots and online account accessibility. 
The week culminated on Friday, May 17th with a presentation by author and social media expert, Jonah Berger who spoke to the audience about viral content and what makes a video or idea resonate with an audience. Addressing the six basic principles in his book, Contagious: Why Things Catch On, Berger gave tips and tricks on making a product or idea top of mind to consumers.

Representing Verizon Wireless at the Montgomery County Public Safety Awards Program, March 15 Verizon Wireless was awarded the Public Safety Corporate Vital Link Award from the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce for its continued support of the Montgomery County Family Justice Center and for its outstanding service on the MCFJC’s board of trustees on March 15 before 1300 first responders from public safety and law enforcement, elected officials from the US Congress, state and local government and regional businesses.
Verizon Wireless was also recognized for providing innovative solutions which allow domestic violence victims obtain protective orders without having to face their abusers in the court room via remote conferencing capabilities from the Center connecting them directly to Court without having to face their abusers in the courtroom.

Verizon Entrepreneurship Training Grant Program

Verizon is pledging $500,000 to help domestic violence survivors become entrepreneurs. The initial $100,000 grants awarded to workforce development programs, in partnership with local domestic violence advocacy agencies, in New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany.

Grants will fund the development of pilot training programs designed to help survivors learn valuable business skills they can use to start or expand a small business, leading to greater financial stability and independence which are key to escaping the cycle of violence.
