What’s Green About Super Bowl XLVIII (Aside from the NY Jets)?

The NFL has been committed to hosting Super Bowl events in an environmentally friendly fashion – and Super Bowl XLVIII will be no exception. The upcoming Super Bowl at near-by MetLife stadium in NJ is already a cause for celebration, but we will also see many green NFL initiatives to celebrate. For example, last month Verizon began planting trees with the NFL in New Jersey’s Weequahic Park in Newark, and New York’s Randall’s Island State Park. You can see footage from the event at the video below. The planting of trees is just part of the NFL Environmental Program, which is nearing its 20th anniversary. The program is dedicated to developing important projects that help address the overall climate change impact of Super Bowl events, as well as solid waste, food waste, material reuse, the needs for books and sports equipment for children in need. As part of the yearly tradition, the greening of each new Super Bowl begins with a ceremonial passing of the shovel. And this year, it is from New Orleans to the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee.

How Do You Get Those Awe-Inspiring Pictures of Fireworks? With These Tips From Verizon!

This year, make those Fourth of July pictures truly spectacular. And you don’t need fancy photo apps or filters to get the effect you want. Just follow a few tricks from the pros, tweak your smartphone’s camera settings, do a little pre-show prep, and then grab some epic pictures of fireworks.

Low-light conditions can be challenging to your phone’s camera. Experiment with how your phone handles less-than-ideal lighting conditions, do test shots on some moving lights in the distance, and tweak your phone’s camera settings accordingly. Settings vary by device, of course, but if you have the ability on your smartphone, try these settings:

Flash: Off
High Definition: Off
Focus Mode: Auto
Exposure: Auto
Scene mode: Firework

Formore control over the shot, direct your smartphone camera’s autofocus: When you point the camera at your subject, tap the screen where you want the camera to focus, such as the upper right of the screen.
Practice panning fast-moving objects. Are the kids running around looking adorable? Move the phone at the same speed as your subject and click the shutter. If you move the phone at the speed of your subject, you’re bound to catch a clearer pic.

Hold her steady. Keep the phone as steady as possible, especially when trying to capture pictures of fireworks. Set the camera on a picnic table, or on your knee, and tilt the camera up to shoot. Or hold the camera with both hands. Bend your elbows, and squeeze your arms in tight.

Verizon Supports ‘It Can Wait’ Campaign Urging Drivers Not to Text & Drive

Formore than a decade, responsible driving has been a cause very dear to Verizon Wireless. Now, Verizon has teamed up with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile to support the It Can Wait campaign that urges drivers to pledge not to text and drive and provides resources and tools to help prevent distracted driving. For those drivers tempted to respond to messages while behind the wheel, Verizon Wireless encourages the use of the Safely Go app, which allows users to lock their phones and send automatic texts alerting others that they are driving safely. The app also has the ability to route calls through Bluetooth and other hands-free accessories.
