Syracuse High School Seniors to Compete for Best Mobile App

The Syracuse school district has chosen 15 high school seniors for a program with Verizon Wireless that will culminate in a competition to create the best mobile app. The seniors will take part in eight weekly two-hour training sessions focusing on public speaking, business communication, technology and other skills that can help them in college and business.Good luck to all those participating!

Verizon Entrepreneurship Training Grant Program

Verizon is pledging $500,000 to help domestic violence survivors become entrepreneurs. The initial $100,000 grants awarded to workforce development programs, in partnership with local domestic violence advocacy agencies, in New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany.

Grants will fund the development of pilot training programs designed to help survivors learn valuable business skills they can use to start or expand a small business, leading to greater financial stability and independence which are key to escaping the cycle of violence.
