Verizon Supports ‘It Can Wait’ Campaign Urging Drivers Not to Text & Drive

Formore than a decade, responsible driving has been a cause very dear to Verizon Wireless. Now, Verizon has teamed up with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile to support the It Can Wait campaign that urges drivers to pledge not to text and drive and provides resources and tools to help prevent distracted driving. For those drivers tempted to respond to messages while behind the wheel, Verizon Wireless encourages the use of the Safely Go app, which allows users to lock their phones and send automatic texts alerting others that they are driving safely. The app also has the ability to route calls through Bluetooth and other hands-free accessories.
HelpVerizon spread the message of the It Can Wait campaign, by encouraging social media users to take a stand against texting and driving by using the hashtags #ItCanWait and #ItWaited on their social media profiles. Users can actively participate in responsible driving by pulling over to text or email and then share the rewarding moments they experience while safely using their devices, using the hashtag #ItWaited and tagging any of the following Twitter accounts: @VZWSheldon, @VZWEsme, @VZWjohno, @VZWMelanie or @VZWmike.
Whenit comes to texting and driving, the message is simple: It Can Wait. For more information about the It Can Wait campaign and initiative, visit http://www.itcanwait.com

Halloween Tips and Apps from Verizon Wireless

This Halloween we have a few tech-safety tools and applications that parents can use to make sure their little ghouls and goblins are building lasting Halloween memories and staying safe. Parents can now, from their smartphones, keep their children safe without joining them door-to-door or worrying from home. Safe and Fun Trick-or-Treat Tech Tips:

  • Get an early start on your trick-or-treating route and plan your path with VZ Navigator. VZ Navigator tells you where you are and what’s nearby, providing turn-by-turn directions.
  • Still not sure about your Halloween Costume? Use one of the several costume idea apps like 100+ Halloween Costumes that help you with homemade costume ideas or deals in stores.
  • To help make sure your children are staying together use Verizon Wireless Family Locator. You can locate multiple family members at the same time and send messages.  It provides you with detailed location information and updates on their whereabouts.
  • Make sure your trick-or-treaters path is illuminated and download a flashlight app to their phones.  Some apps even offer a strobe light function to keep it fun.
  • Not sure if the weather is going to end the trick or treating night early? Download the Weather Channel app and keep a close watch.

Safe Drivers Act Of 2011

Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) recently introduced the Safe
Drivers Act of 2011
(H.R. 2333), which will require the U.S.
Department of Transportation to study the impact of in-vehicle
wireless phone use and recommend legislative activity based on the findings.
Peter Davidson, Verizon Senior Vice President of federal government
relations said, “We applaud Rep. McCarthy for introducing the Safe
Drivers Act of 2011. While mobile devices bring great benefits to
Americans’ lives, they must be used responsibly while driving. We’re
pleased that Congresswoman McCarthy is championing this public safety
measure, and we fully support her efforts to enact the Safe Drivers
Act of 2011.”

The Telematics Conference focuses on how telecommunications are incorporated into vehicles as a means of providing functionality. This technology is a source of the status and behavior of a vehicle, and delivering services, including location-based services, safety and security, and other data to the vehicle’s occupants.

Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network enables advances in key components of Telematics, such as GPS systems, maintenance indicators, wireless Web access, hands-free connectivity and roadside assistance, along with other technologies and applications. The end result is a transformation of the vehicle into a combination of transportation and connectivity, making summer road trips all the better.
